History of the Organization

Uday Social Development Society is a voluntary organization under the umbrella of Pavitra Atma Sevika Sangh, managed by the Holy Spirit Sisters (SSpS - INC). It is based in Bhopal, in Central India and has been working for the integral development of children and women since 2003 in four districts of Madhya Pradesh (Bhopal, Indore, Khandwa & Jhabua). Currently, Uday works with 14 Police Stations (Bhopal-8, khandwa- 5 & Jhabua -1), 129 slums across 54 Municipal Corporation wards of Bhopal & Indore and 34 villages of Khandwa and Jhabua districts. Uday works for the rights of children, women, child protection, prevention of domestic violence and women empowerment through Community level meeting, Orientation session, training, exposure visit, advocacy, campaigning and Domestic Workers’ Trade Union. A Nyaya Chaupal (women’s legal cell) has been also formed to prevent and address incidents of domestic violence to ensure that women have access to justice through counselling, providing referral services and linkages.

Our organization believes in the promotion of human rights and equal opportunities for everyone in all spheres. We promote Local Self Governance especially the three-tier system of Panchayati Raj with the active involvement of women and working with Municipal Corporation. Self Help Groups are trained to play a significant role to address development issues and thus uplift the socio-economic status of the families.

Main functions of the organization: -

 

A. To empower children by forming children’s groups and weekly meeting to ensure child rights.


B. Formation and empowering Self-Help Groups to strengthen family economic condition.


C. Establishment of Nyaya Chaupal (Women’s Cell) work to address and prevention of violence against women.            Additional women empowerment through awareness programs, meeting, orientation, trainings etc.


D. Work on the rights of domestic workers, and prevention of violence against domestic workers through the Madhya Pradesh Domestic Workers’ Trade Union.


E. Protection of children in urban spaces through Local Self-Government and child protection systems in collaboration with UNICEF.


F. Formation of Mahila Vikas Manch (Women’s Federation) and working towards rural development.

G. Networking and Collaboration: Meeting with Police Departments, Women and Child Development Department, Labour Department, Municipal Corporation, Public Representatives, Education Department, Child Line, Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI), SCPCR, Media Representatives,  One Stop Crisis Centre, District Legal Service Authority (DLSA), Individual Social Workers and NGO Partners.
